Old Glossop display not fit for King

LAST weekend’s Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League matches saw the hot weather accompanied by lots of runs and some big centuries.
In division one, Dinting won by one wicket at Dove Holes where John Coleman took 4-47 as the hosts were all out for 181 before scoring 37 to see his side to victory.
Andy King hit 48 and Matt Woodcock 44 as Old Glossop compiled 198-8 against Compstall, only for David Bailey to score a magnificent 120 not out as Compstall won for the loss of four wickets.
Newton went down by 45 runs at Romiley where they were all out for 182 in reply to the hosts’ innings of 227-9.
James Poole (5-36) and Martin Harris (3-37) helped Tintwistle dismiss New Mills for 116, Rick Harris hitting 42 in reply to help his side to a seven-wicket victory.
Broadbottom were beaten by 33 runs when they hosted Buxton in division two.
The visitors were all out for 207 batting first, Steve Mee with 4-47 for Broadbottom who replied with 174 all out.
Stefan Fielding’s undefeated 100 helped Mottram compile 267-8 at Buxworth, only for Johnny Duckworth’s 122 not out to help the hosts secure a three-wicket victory.
Chapel were victorious against Charlesworth despite being dismissed for 113 as their opponents lost regular wickets and were all out for 52.
Hadfield lost by 38 runs at High Lane where they were skittled for 78 having dismissed their hosts for 116.
Hollingworth were also on the wrong end of a result, losing by 27 runs at home to Woodley as they were all out for 105 chasing their visitors’ innings of 132 all out.
In division three, Chapel were dismissed for 89 after watching visitors Hayfield end their overs on 216-8, while Old Glossop were 53 all out in reply to Compstall’s target of 240-5.
Dave Acomb’s undefeated 57 was not enough for Dinting as their total of 184-7 was surpassed by a Dove Holes side who had three wickets in hand.
Tintwistle were another side beaten, also going down by three wickets, as New Mills were able to better their score of 138-8 despite Stuart Dodd’s 4-16.
However, there was good news for Newton who were five-wicket winners against Romiley after dismissing their visitors for 140, Daz Bennett hitting 65 during the Newton reply.
Division four brought a 149-run victory for Broadbottom against Buxton as they reached 199-9 before skittling their opponents for 50.
Hadfield ended their innings on 154-9 chasing High Lane’s impressive 179, while Charlesworth saw Hazel Grove run out of overs on 132-9 after they compiled 135 all out.
Mottram went down by two wickets after they were all out for 110 against High Lane, while Hollingworth were 75 all out replying to Woodley’s 162 all out.
