Foreman KO’s hosts

21/ 5/2008

Denton.................158-5
Denton West.......162-6

SATURDAY saw Denton West secure another derby day victory with a dogged display at local rivals Denton which owed more to perspiration than the inspiration seen seven days earlier.

With West missing skipper Gareth Senior, deputy Andy O’Brien won the toss and asked Denton to make first use of what looked to be another Egerton Street minefield.

It looked as though his call was a wrong one when Denton had reached 40-0 with their batsmen seemingly playing at ease, but his hunch looked correct when Scott Kirwin got a delivery to rear up off a length and force Roebuck to retire hurt as a result.

His replacement, Stenson, showed bags of potential in flaying the ball to all parts on his way to 40, but the hosts began to struggle as wickets fell at the other end with Paul Turner and Jason Stringer making full use of the conditions.

The overs ticked by as the clouds gathered and Denton’s expected slog never materialised with only Patel (20) having an impact as Jordan Williams impressed with his control at the death.

With Senior absent, it was Glenn Bullock who took up the opening berth and he rattled up 25 in no time before he was bowled by the excellent Andrew Neill.

Scott Kirwin (36) and Mitchell McHassellhoff (28) put on 70 before a collapse saw West reduced to 116-6.

Skipper O’Brien and Foreman guided the West boys home though, although not without a few scares as Foreman (36 not out) struck three sixes and three fours to see the visitors home by four wickets.
