Wigan win

GLOSSOP Rugby Club’s third XV were left celebrating after defeating Wigan 18-10 to lift the Halbro Plate.
Against a Wigan side boasting a number of former international rugby league players, Glossop’s defence stood firm during a frenetic start to proceedings.
It was Glossop who took the lead when a solid scrum saw winger Charlie Hughes wriggle his way through for a try, only for Wigan to level the scores following a superb. flowing move from their backs.
Once Wigan’s running game began to wane in the face of Glossop’s defending, they bombarded Karl Hart with a series of high kicks which he dealt with by showing composure, pace and ability in a performance worthy of the man-of-the-match award.
A try for Stanford sent Glossop in at half-time with the advantage which they duly extended with a second-half penalty and an Adam Thompson try.
Although Wigan set up a nervy final few moments with a second score of their own, the game was already won.
