GLOSSOP’S first XV recorded their third away win of the season with a hard fought victory over a team they have always struggled to beat on the road.

A strong wind blew the length of the field, and as the week before, Glossop elected to play with the breeze in the first half.

They took the lead when a Lincoln prop was sinbinned for some over-zealous footwork, giving Glossop a penalty which went through the uprights.

It did not take long for Glossop’s front five to exert considerable pressure in the scrum, providing a platform for Horbatchewskyj to break the line and lob a pass out to Stanford who dived over for a converted try and a 10-0 lead.

However, Lincoln replied with a cheeky effort, deftly chipping the ball over the top of Glossop’s well set defence for a try to halve their deficit and make it 10-5.

Horbatchewskyj landed another penalty before Sonczak and Brammer combined to send Murphy over for a try.

Leading 18-5 at the break, Glossop began the sceond half by pinning Lincoln deep inside their own half, only for their hosts to construct a flowing backs move which ended with a try from distance.

Glossop’s response could not have been better though, surging away from the restart and gaining good field position, allowing Clark to use Harrison as a dummy runner before sprinting over to score.

Leading by 13 points, Glossop conceded three from a penalty before hauling down runner after runner as Lincoln attempted to break them down.

They succeeded from the final play of the game before the missed conversion heralded the final whistle.
