GLOSSOP North End boss Steve Young is hopeful of bringing new two new strikers to Surrey Street by the end of the week.
Having agreed a budget with club chairman Dave Atkinson for the 2009/10 season, Young immediately set his sights on bolstering the Hillmen’s strikeforce.
On numerous occasions last season, Young said that the lack of a regular goalscorer was the one thing preventing his team from challenging the likes of Newcastle Town and AFC Fylde.
Provided that a meeting on Wednesday went as planned, Young may have that issue remedied two months before the start of the new season.
He said: "Everything’s been sorted in terms of a budget now and everything’s in place for me to get started.
"I won’t be spending a hell of a lot of money but I think we’ve got the money to get the type of players we need to take us forward.
"We’ve had a couple of targets who have said ‘no’ to us already but we’ve still got a couple of irons in the fire.
"There are a couple of strikers from a higher level who are quite impressed with the club and the steps taken over the past two years.
"I’m pretty convinced we might have them signed by the end of this week because I’ll be having a meeting with them in midweek to iron a few issues out.
"We’ve got some good strikers at the club but we don’t have someone who will score us 20 goals a season.
"If you look at the teams who finished above us last time, they all had at least one of those sorts of striker and that’s with no disrespect to any of our players."
