Let’s finish well

GLOSSOP North End boss Steve Young believes a run of five consecutive victories would see the Hillmen snatch fourth spot come the end of the Vodkat League division one season.

Speaking ahead of North End’s trip to Silsden on Wednesday, Young challenged his men to follow up victories against Congleton Town and Nelson by taking three points in midweek, as well as at Ramsbottom United on Saturday and against champions Trafford at Surrey Street in their final game of the season next Monday.

North End currently sit sixth in the table with 59 points, three adrift of Squires Gate and a further two behind Colne, so fourth spot would be something to be proud of.

Young said: "Five consecutive wins would give us the opportunity to get fourth spot but Colne have been on a good run and have done very well in all fairness to them.

"Trafford is a great way to end the season, playing the champions at home, and it will let us see how far we’ve progressed.I was disappointed it was postponed last week but with the freak weather we’ve had, we can’t really control that!"

Although North End took three points from Nelson last weekend, Young was unhappy with certain elements of their display. The main room for improvement is the club’s defensive record with the manager unhappy at their knack of conceding goals at certain times.

He said: "We did control the game for a long period, but like we usually do being a young team, shot ourselves in the foot by conceding a soft goal just after going 2-0 up.Before the game we noticed that we’d only kept two clean sheets in the last 14 games.Even though we’ve got the fourth best defence, it still doesn’t look good and it’s been difficult for us."
