Glossop NE. 2 - 5 Abbey Hey

26/ 3/2008

GLOSSOP crashed to Easter Monday defeat against an Abbey Hey side who wanted it more and ruthlessly exposed defensive gaps.

With Darren Hamilton and Keiron Lugsden unavailable, Glossop saw Lugsden’s brother Kelvin suffer an early injury which saw him off the pitch when Hey opened the scoring thanks to Heffernan’s goal in the sixth minute.

Abbey extended their advantage in the 68th minute thanks to Doherty, only for Jay Gorton to head home from Dave Young’s corner within five minutes.

However, hope did not last long as a sleeping defence allowed Ellis-Hall to make it 3-1 before Doherty scored two further goals to complete his hat-trick.

A header two minutes from time from debutant Gareth Baker could not disguise North End’s poor performance and much more will be needed for Saturday’s trip to Silsden

Attendance: 135
