Chester City 0 Macclesfield Town 0

5/ 5/2008

MACCLESFIELD Town’s season ended with a whimper as they played out a tame goalless draw at fellow strugglers Chester.

The match was only notable for the first start on the youngest member of the Rooney clan, 17-year-old John, who enlivened proceedings with a stunning shot in the 15th minute that crashed off the underside of the cross bar.

Manager Keith Alexander said: “He’s got talent but he tired at the end and we’re expecting better things of him next season."

Chester had the better of the chances and in the ninth minute Richie Partridge was on the end of a flowing passing move only to scoop his shot over the cross bar.

Ex-Macc striker John Murphy then looped a 12-yard header over the cross bar just before the break.

Partridge produced the only moment of quality in what was an otherwise abysmal second half when he forced an arching save from Jon Brain with a 25-yard chip.
