Dukinfield 201-9 Cheetham Hill 204-6

6/ 8/2008

DUKINFIELD made championship hopefuls Cheetham Hill work hard for the points in an entertaining game at Higher King Street last Saturday.

An encouraging performance saw Dukinfield record their highest score of the season and then take six wickets despite the departure of professional Adam Robinson.

Having lost the toss and been put into bat, Dukinfield lost two early wickets to Imran Mirza.

Mark Collins and Mark Stringer staged a recovery, taking the score to 64 when the former was dismissed for 15 by Gulam Abbas.

Stringer departed for 23, while Andy Day hit a superb 27 before skipper David Gandy (42) and Kamran Aaziz (46) added 70 in half-an-hour.

Although Mirza ended with figures of 5-35, he could not prevent Dukinfield from passing 200 just before the overs ran out.

The visitors began their reply confidently, putting on 69 for the first wicket before Stringer took the first wicket.

He followed that with the dismissal of Paul Rogers (55), stumped by Matthew Mayne who recorded another victim when Simon Collins tempted Yousef Anwar out of his ground.

Humayun Farhat (41) was fourth out with the score on 160, followed by Abbas, to leave Cheetham Hill 173-5.

Dukinfield must have thought they had an outside chance of victory, but despite taking one more wicket, they saw Mirza hit an unbeaten 35 to see his side home with four wickets in hand.
