In pleasant conditions, and on a decent-looking surface, Roe Green won the toss and elected to bat first.

FRESH from their five-point win against Roe Green the previous day Glossop entertained Irlam on Sunday trying to build on the improvements shown on Saturday.

On what appeared to be a superb surface for batting, Irlam won the toss, and as per the previous day, the visitors elected to be first to take advantage of the conditions.

THE midweek heavy rain turned the wickets into a bowlers’ paradise as last weekend’s Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League saw many low-scoring games and excellent figures for the bowlers.

In division one, John Coleman took 6-15 and Andrew Logan 3-36 as Dinting dismissed Hawk Green for 55 having earlier made 177-9.

A SHOWERY Saturday in the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League meant there were many close games with a few tight finishes.

Hazel Grove batted first at Hadfield and saw Nick Hayward have a fantastic day, hitting an unbeaten 122 in their 216-3.

THE loss of seven wickets for 28 runs saw Glossop beaten by 32 runs at a wet and blustery North Road.

Having been 87-2 in reply to their visitors’ total, Glossop frittered wickets away at regular intervals to throw away their commanding position.

WITH the town’s attention centred on footballing matters on Sunday, Glossop’s cricketers returned to winning ways following two consecutive defeats.

As with the day before, the wicket appeared to favour the bowlers, and once again, the coin came down in Glossop’s favour as they elected to bowl first.

GLOSSOP brought the curtain down on their 2008 JW Lees Lancashire County League campaign with victory over champions Cheetham Hill at North Road.

The victory saw them finish a point behind the table-toppers after a second half of the season which saw seven fixtures postponed because of poor weather.

LAST weekend’s play in the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League saw numerous cancellations because of waterlogged pitches.

In division one, there was a 47-run defeat for Tintwistle against Hayfield as they were all out for 82 having dismissed their visitors for 129, Martin Harris with 4-27 and Simon Barrow 3-23.
