Disney prize for incredible Rhys

AN INCREDIBLE Glossop teenager is the winner of The Advertiser's Disney on Ice competition.

Rhys Jordan will be off to see the Incredibles and some of Disney's favourite characters at the MEN arena in October.

Mum Janet, 49, nominated the 15 year old because she said: "He is the most kind-hearted teenager I know. I would love Rhys to have something nice to happen for him because he is such a kind teenager who helps anyone he can."

Not only has he comforted his mum through divorce and bereavement, Rhys is also a regular volunteer at Glossop's Volunteer Centre.

He has helped organise a fashion show to raise charity money, helped clean up the river and visits old folk in their homes.

He said: "I just thought I'd do it because there's not many 15 year olds who want to help out in the community. I enjoy it because it makes me feel like I've got a bit more confidence in myself. I've just put in for a Duke of Edinburgh award and I've done a basic first aid course. I'm also making new friends all the time."

Rhys said he would eventually like to work with the Volunteer Centre full time, or something similar.

Darren Crimes, project manager for the Hands On! youth project at the centre, said: "Rhys has been involved in the Hands On! project for young people doing activities beneficial to the community. It gives them something to do and a voice in the community.

"He has been involved in all sorts of things.

"He's been coming to the office once or twice a week, answering phones and doing paperwork. He's extremely helpful, a great lad."
