Historical treat for residents

GLOSSOP residents have been taking time out to look at their past recently.

The town's heritage centre held a month-long exhibition to celebrate its 21st anniversary.

From paintings to trophies and peg dolls, the team of volunteers have been raiding the centre's cupboards for interesting items.

The event will be culminating today (Thursday 26) with a special display of everything the team has found and the Henry Street centre will stay open from 10am-8pm to enable residents who work to come along.

Volunteer Ailsa Thompson said: "There'll be a display on all day and the draw for the three pictures we've been giving raffle tickets away for will take place at 6pm. We've also been running an art competition for 12 to 17-year-olds and that will be judged on the Wednesday.

"The exhibition has been good. The nice thing is the people who have been in have been able to give us little bits of information about some items we've got which obviously makes it more realistic." A themed window display and parts of the exhibition will remain on display until the end of the month. For more information contact the centre on 869176.
