Town's revamp is on starting line

WORK on Glossop town centre improvements is set to get underway shortly.

The focus will be on High Street East, between Ellison Street and Norfolk Street/Victoria Street as well as High Street West, from Market Street to Chapel Street.

The aim is to improve the appearance of the town centre and will involve removing and replacing asphalt and concrete footways with high quality natural stone paving. Other features include new trees with specialist tree grids as well as new retaining walls, steps and railings on the station forecourt.

There will also be new decorative lighting and street furniture, including bollards, hand railings and litter bins, as well as new traffic signs and road markings.

Additional work areas include the Market Square - to provide improved access to the car park - and the station forecourt, where new steps will be installed and access to and from the car park improved.

The works will start Monday, 30 July, and be carried out in phases over 24 weeks on weekdays between 7am-7pm.

Noisy operations will be scheduled for after 9am. Access will be maintained to properties at all times.
