Men injured in double shooting

TWO men have been injured after a double air rifle shooting.

A 59-year-old man was hit in the jaw by an air rifle pellet, and had to be taken to Tameside General Hospital to have it removed.

A second shot narrowly missed the Sheffield man standing outside Glossop Caravans.

And a 62-year old man, standing 100 yards away at the Melandra Road recycling tip, was struck at around the same time.

The air rifle pellet caused an injury to the man's hand, but he did not have to go to hospital.

The incident happened at around 4pm on Sunday in Brookfield, Glossop.

Derbyshire police say they have received information that two youths were seen acting suspiciously in the woods at the time.

The police spokesperson warned that carrying an air weapon in public, loaded or not, is a public offence punishable by a maximum of six months imprisonment.

Any witnesses are being urged to call Glossop police on 0845 123 3333, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
