Policing team's plea to parents

HADFIELD'S new policing team is counting on parents to help improve youngsters' behaviour.

New joint beat manager PC Gareth Podmore hopes parents will tell officers when their children's actions are affecting others' quality of life.

PC Podmore said: "We want to work with parents and young people to resolve behavioural problems at home that are reflected back on the streets."

He is joined by colleague PC James Taylor and a team of two PCSOs, Matthew Hill and Lee Baker, as well as special police constables Jonathan Edwards, Dave Hammonds and Katie Waters. They are new faces on the Hafield beat following a reorganisation at Glossop police.

The team are proud of the strong links they have already developed with High Peak Borough Council's anti-social behaviour officers and housing officers.

PC Podmore, who, like PC Taylor, has a background in response car policing, said that while most of their time is spent on foot they also spend time in meetings finding long-term solutions to problems.

He said the team's priorities are reducing anti-social behaviour at hotspots such as the path between Lambgates and the Rough Fields estate, and around the Green Lane shops.

"We arrange our working hours to suit the needs of the community," PC Podmore said.

The police station, now called the police community office, on Mersey Bank Road, is not open full time but does provide police with a local base.

He said the team was currently trying to organise police surgeries in Hadfield, Padfield and Tintwistle.

Signage is due to go up outside the police office in a few weeks.

People with enquiries should call 0845 123 3333 or go to Glossop main station on Ellison Street.
