Tidy little Sally is pick of the litter

SOME dogs are renowned for the size of their litter but none more so than Shirebrook Park's cleanest Corgi - Sally.

Despite being the chosen breed of Queen Elizabeth II, who keeps four at all times, the seven-year-old Pembrokeshire pedigree is most at home rooting through the rubbish in Manor Park.

Sally has developed an unusual habit of picking up rubbish on her daily walks around the beauty spot with owner Jackie Dawson.

"She's been picking up litter in her mouth for as long as I can remember. Everybody knows her for it!" said Jackie.

"I've had four Corgis and none of them have ever done anything like this - it's more of a Collie trait.

"She'll get everything - sweet wrappers, cigarette boxes, cans, bottles.

"She even picked up a pair of ladies knickers once - we didn't realise until we got home! She does it every walk we go on, especially the morning walk.

"She just likes to keep everywhere tidy."

Jackie, who has kept Corgis since her parents had one when she was only nine years old, believes Sally is one of only two of the breed living in Glossop.

She added: "Because she's only a small dog she can only get one bottle in her mouth at a time, so if we come across another bottle she'll try to fit them both in and won't leave until I've picked it up.

"I don't smoke and I only have the occasional glass of wine, but because of Sally my wheelie bin is full of cigarette packets and beer bottles every week. I don't know what the bin men must think!"
