Ain’t no mountain high enough

TWO lads face an uphill struggle to find the cash for a charity fundraising trip.

After their friend's daughter was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Daniel Carter and Thomas Little decided to do something to help.

Daniel, 28, of King Street, Glossop, said: "Tom saw an advert in a magazine for a trek to raise money for Scope, a charity which helps people with disabilities, especially cerebral palsy."

"It involves trekking up Mount Kilimanjaro - something we have both have always wanted to do - a perfect way of combining two goals."

Now the boys are in serious training for the trek as, standing at 5,985 metres above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak.

Thomas, 29, of Sheffield Road, Glossop, said: "The entire trek takes seven days - five days up and two back down - so it's quite a challenge.

"To get to the peak, we will have to leave camp at around midnight and it will take 18 hours." But the enterprising pair, both former students at Glossopdale Community College, are more worried about how to raise the £6,000 needed for the trip.

They have organised a charity gig at the Globe in Glossop on Friday, 13 April, where local bands The Wednesday Club and Papa Chubbs will perform. Three DJs will also play sets.

Daniel and Thomas also plan to hold a football memorabilia auction in March. The pair are urging local businesses and the public to get involved by donating raffle prizes.
