Police hold session with railway users

CRIME on the railways is a key issue for police and passengers alike - so officers organised a drop-in surgery to listen to concerns.

The neighbourhood team from British Transport Police together with colleagues from Derbyshire constabulary met dozens of passengers as they disembarked in Glossop on Monday evening.

The two-hour surgery, held in a mobile police pod outside the station, was deemed a success with plenty of problems aired and advice given.

Officers gave tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime and enlightened rail users on the variety of work done by the new neighbourhood policing unit.

Inspector Tony Fitzpatrick of British Transport Police said: "It is very important that, as local people who regularly use the trains and station, they are able to have their say as to how they are policed.

"The aim is to listen to concerns and then attempt to tackle any problems.

"We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work in partnership with Derbyshire Constabulary as the railway is an important part of the local community.

"It was good to see so many local people take the time to come and speak to us after their working day.

"Now we can act on the information gathered."
