Lights winner looks to even brighter future

THE house judged to have the best decorations in Gamesley this festive season may be even brighter next Christmas.

Peter and Karen Baker won £75 in shopping vouchers in High Peak Community Housing's Christmas competition on the estate, which will be presented to the couple in the new year.

Karen, of Cottage Lane, said: "We don't know how we will spend the vouchers yet. We may even buy more lights for next year! We always enjoy Christmas and put the lights up every year. My youngest is 15 so he still enjoys them, but it's more for the grandchildren, who are four and two years old.

"It's just great to see the look on the kids' faces as they are coming up from the primary school when they see the house all lit up."

Callow Green was judged the best-dressed Christmas street in Gamesley in the competition, the winners of which were announced at the Christmas market which was held on Winster Mews on the evening of 14 December.

The win means £200 will be spent on environmental improvements in the street and all the residents will be asked to nominate ways to spend the money in the new year.

Co-ordinator Lara Ford, who organised the competition from High Peak Community Housing's neighbourhood office on Winster Mews, said: "The whole neighbourhood is looking very festive and the judging was a great pleasure. We are very grateful to Mick Dewhurst, chairman of Gamesley Residents' Association, for helping with judging the competition."
