Pavilion upgraded

THE pavilion in a popular Glossop park will be closed from Monday as refurbishment gets underway.

The cafe and toilets will also be shut as work begins to restore Manor Park pavilion to its former glory.

Externally the building will get a new roof, windows, doors and ornate security grilles, while inside the cafe will be improved and the clubroom for crown green bowlers extended in time for next season.

Toilets will be upgraded, too, with a new disabled toilet installed and provision for baby changing included. The work - estimated to cost £120,000 - is due to be completed by the end of March. It is part of the Glossop Vision 'Liveability' project. Vision chairman John Hart said: "The pavilion is at the heart of Manor Park and these improvements to the facility will make it much more welcoming to all users.

"Installing security grilles will help to reduce the incidents of anti-social behaviour that have been prevalent around the pavilion in the past. Together with improvements to the toilets and the provision of baby change facilities, I am sure that the refurbishment will be welcomed by many park users."

Councillor John Pritchard, High Peak Council's executive member for community and social development, said: "We are sorry that we have to temporarily close the pavilion facilities. However, the refurbishment is part of the continuing work to enhance Manor Park.

"It follows the car park improvements and the installation of the skate park and new playground equipment. We are watching Manor Park transform to become an excellent community treasure."
