Former Corrie star goes into battle for Tories

GROUPS are being invited to take part in a 'battle of the bands' contest to which an ex-Coronation Street heartthrob has been invited.

Adam Rickitt - who played Nicky Tilsley/Platt and had a brief pop career after quitting the soap - is due to attend the event at The Blues club on Bernard Street next month.

Adam, 28, is said to be on the 'A' list of 100 Tory General Election candidates.

The bands contest is being organised by Conservative Future, the activists formerly known as the Young Conservatives, which is launching a local branch.

The winning band will be able to make its own music video, courtesy of Whaley Bridge-based production company Sonic Towers. Judges include Leighton Morris of High Peak Radio and the audience vote will count for half the score.

Organiser Krish Gill said: "Entry tickets are only £5 - where else can you see six bands in an evening for just a fiver? In addition, everyone who comes along will be entered into a draw for an iPod which will be drawn on the night."

Councillor Andrew Bingham, Conservative High Peak parliamentary candidate, added: "I have been happy to help Krish put this event on but it is something for young people, run by young people. The Blues club are as enthusiastic as we are and I would like to thank Sonic Towers for their support in offering such an excellent prize."
