Teen in Manor Park tragedy

THE body of a 17-year-old boy found hanging in Manor Park was left for three hours while a police doctor arrived.

Scott Price, from Whitfield, was found hanging from a tree near the miniature railway track in Manor Park on Saturday morning.

But it was at least three hours before his body was taken down after the police arrived.

Police say this was because a doctor had to travel from Derby to conduct a forensic investigation and determine whether there had been any foul play.

The tragedy occurred in an area of the park which is undergoing redevelopment.

A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "We received a call at 11.10am and officers were at the scene at 11.21am.

"A police doctor who is available on call came from Derby to conduct forensic investigations and to determine whether there was any foul play.

"There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner has been informed."

Scott left Glossopdale Community College around two years ago and is also a former pupil of St Philip Howard School.

Assistant principal Andrew Bruce said: "He was also a well-liked character at the college and a 'lovable rogue'. That is the positive thing that will live in all our memories.

"He always had an infectious smile and our students are shocked at his death."

Commenting on reports that there were youths taking photographs of the incident on mobile phones, Inspector Stuart Thompson, of Glossop Police, said: "I am not aware of any issues like that and we have had no reports of that.

"I would like to send my condolences and those of the police to Scott's family.

"It is a very sad and traumatic situation for them."

Joyce Ashley, chairwoman of the Friends of Manor Park, said that if such rumours turned out to be true it would be a despicable act.

"What would his poor mother be thinking if people were sending pictures to each other on their phones?

"I cannot imagine what sort of people would do that sort of thing."

She added: "I feel so sorry for the family, they must be so devastated.

"I would like to send them my love and sympathy."
