Park’s designers are aiming high

A POPULAR Glossop park's new playground equipment has been given a thorough workout.

Parents, carers and children were invited to a picnic in Manor Park to mark the opening of its new play area.

Youngsters clambered over climbing frames and looked at draft designs for the park's new skating area.

Manor Park is undergoing a makeover which includes river engineering works, a re-tarmaced car park and a refurbished pavilion and toilets, as well as new landscaping and pathways.

The new playground's launch was organised by the Friends of Manor Park, Glossop Vision and High Peak Council's parks team.

High Peak Mayor and Hadfield Councillor Bob Mckeown officially opened the play area.

John Hart, chairman of Glossop Vision Board, said: "Through the friends group local people have contributed valuable ideas for the maintenance of the park.

"We hope the fun day will encourage the local community to become actively involved in its development."

Councillor John Pritchard, council executive member for community and social development, added: "We are very excited about the new play equipment in Manor Park, which is just part of the investment that High Peak Borough Council is making."
