Man seen on CCTV attacking partner

A MAN was caught on CCTV pushing over the mother of his young son and kicking her while she lay on the floor.

Magistrates watched footage of the incident taken from inside the Miami Pizza shop on Victoria Street, which captured the violent assault outside. Andrew Patterson could be seen shouting and swearing at his partner Sarah Boardman, before attacking her and walking away.

Takeaway staff are then seen going to Miss Boardman's aid and bringing her inside the shop.

Prosecutor Susan Eakins said that Patterson, 25, of Highfield Road, was arrested, but had no recollection of the incident which took place in the early hours of 12 February. He admitted it must have been him after seeing the CCTV.

She added: "There was a large cut to the side of Miss Boardman's chin, letting a great deal of blood onto her hands and arms, and onto the pavement outside with droplets on the floor of the shop."

Defending, Guy Rogers said the incident occurred after Patterson had spent the day watching rugby with his friends and drinking "copious quantities of Guinness".

He later met up with Miss Boardman at Harvey's nightclub and on leaving they began to argue.

"Waking the next morning, he felt ashamed and embarrassed and upon release made his way to Miss Boardman's house where they settled their differences," Mr Rogers said.

The case was adjourned until 4 April for pre-sentence reports.
