THIS week the Advertiser launches a campaign to rally readers in support of Glossop remaining within Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust.
Residents, medics and politicians are standing firm to defend the historical boundary after a proposal was announced to include Glossop within a Derbyshire- wide PCT.
Consultations on proposals to establish new primary care trusts in England began in December and will finish on 22 March. The proposals include the reconfiguration of the existing 19 primary care trusts across Trent to create new commissioning organisations, one in Lincolnshire and either one or two in each of Nottingham and Derbyshire, all working to a new East Midlands Strategic Health Authority.
The consultations came after the Department of Health published a programme to improve the commissioning of services back in July 2005.
Following a packed public meeting at Bradbury Community House in Glossop last week, the audience raised their hands to vote almost unanimously to keep Glossop with Tameside PCT.
This week the Advertiser urges all residents of Glossop to make their feelings known by signing our petition, writing to the Primary Care Trusts and filling in leaflets available in all GP and dentist surgeries, as well as pharmacies and opticians in the area. There will also be voting boxes at each of these locations so residents can fill in the voting form and post it there and then.
Medics say it is vitally important that the people who will ultimately be using the PCT make their feelings known.
- To add your support, complete and return the petition form in this week's Advertiser. Alternatively, click on 'Submit your comments' below and fill in the form, including your name, address and any comments you wish to make.
