Sports boosted by £12k grant
Tom Rowley2/ 2/2006
SPORT in Glossop has received a double boost following the award of two cash grants.
The money will enable Glossopdale Rugby Club to renovate its clubhouse and St Philip Howard Sports College to improve its facilities and coaching.
Glossop Town Partnership has awarded £10,000 to help renovate the clubhouse at the Glossop Road site.
In addition to training sessions and hosting games, the site will also be developed as a coach education centre for the town's sports and volunteer groups.
The funding goes via Glossop Sports and Recreation Forum.
And St Philip Howard RC Sports College, is also to benefit to the tune of £2,500.
It will allow the school to also improve its amenities and provide expert coaching.
John Hart, chairman of the town partnership, said: "We are delighted to help fund sports and recreation within Glossop.
"This was considered an important area for support within the Glossop health check and we hope that the awards will allow all sectors of our community to access these facilities."
Improving sports provision within Glossopdale was identified as an area for action in the health check.
And the promotion of a healthy environment is identified as a priority for action in High Peak Council's corporate plan.
