Businesses are really green

LOCAL businesses cleaned up in a scheme to tidy Glossop.

A record number of businesses gained the gold award in Glossop Vision's Tidy Business Standard Award Scheme.

The awards - in bronze, silver and gold categories - aim to boost recycling in the borough and are given to firms which show commitment to recycling and caring for the environment.

This includes keeping premises and the surrounding area clean and supporting community activities.

Decor8 on Bernard Street was among the gold medal winners along with Willow Wood Hospice shop, The Curly Cornet, Sandra's Florist, Joe Barbers Plumbing Merchants, Gas Appliance Stockists and Bay Tree Books.

Janet Black, of Decor8, said: "We're really pleased. I'm a big recycler at home so I automatically do it at work too. When I read the criteria for the awards I realised we did most of it anyway, but I didn't expect we'd get gold so soon."

All businesses are encouraged to take part in the scheme and premises reaching the required standard will receive a certificate and window sticker to display to customers.
