Station is suite!

POLICING has a brand-new look in Glossop.

After more than a year, officers have finally moved into a new police station on Ellison Street. The force has been working from temporary premises since the renovation started in September last year.

But according to Inspector Stuart Thompson, his state-of-the-art new home has been more than worth the wait.

"It's absolutely fantastic - I don't think anywhere in Derbyshire will have a better police station than ours," he said.

"The old station did not comply with home office specifications and health and safety rules and we desperately needed to change it, but this has definitely brought us up-to-date."

The new-look station now has a custody suite and five cells and a community room for meetings or for any major incidents.

Insp Thompson said: "We have got a great working environment and a lot more space which has been a big morale boost for the whole section.

"We also have a room set up in case of any major incidents which is a huge plus because we wouldn't have been able to run it from Glossop before."

The police station will be open 24 hours-a-day.

Glossop Mountain Rescue is planning a move back to Ellison Street when their new hut is completed next year and Hadfield's two beat officers and Victim Support will continue to be based at Merseybank Road.
