Don't be a Scrooge - it's your last chance!

CHRISTMAS is just around the corner - and it's your last chance to give to our Age Concern tin appeal.

Each week we've been asking you to drop an extra item in your shopping basket for needy pensioners in the Glossopdale area.

Around 250 old folk receive parcels from the charity with vital supplies and goodies to see them through the festive season.

And with 10 days to go until Christmas, we're appealing to readers to make one final effort.

Parcels go to those who, whether through illness, financial difficulty or living alone, are facing a tough time this year.

Joyce Ashley, of Age Concern, said: "Quite a lot of parcels have gone out already and I had a lovely thankyou letter from a lady in Hadfield.

"Two local charities have also brought in cheques this week which were extremely gratefully received as I was just going to do a big shop for the things we still need."

Tons of tins have been rolling in with everything from baked beans and soup to canned fruit, puddings and other sweet treats.

Joyce added: "One thing we could do with is tins of things like stew and big soups. They are a little bit more expensive but are very warming and can often be a meal in themselves."

Donations can be dropped in at Tesco, Glossop Volunteer Bureau on High Street, Bradbury House on Market Street and Decor 8 on Henry Street.
