Down at heel over socks gift

A PAIR of socks were the star of the show at the Queen's Hotel in Old Glossop.

Television cameras came to town to film 'All I Want For Christmas' - a new show about the world's worst presents.

And it was double amputee Stan Coram who stole the show with his gift of a pair of socks!

Stan, who lives in sheltered accommodation in Gamesley, received the gift from his warden along with a box of chocolates which he was unable to eat due to being diabetic.

Instead he gave the socks --emblazoned with the words 'Merry Kissmas' - to his friend Duncan Wright and the chocolates to nurses at Tameside Hospital who helped to care for him when he was ill.

The toe-curling presents are one of many inappropriate or unusual gifts to feature in the show, such as a husband who bought his wife plastic surgery, and a woman whose boyfriend surprised her with the unromantic gift of a drill!

The programme is produced by UK Style and will be aired sometime before Christmas.

Stan said: "It really is funny if you think about it. I knew Duncan shared the same sense of humour as me and at least someone is getting some wear out of them. I think I'll be off the Christmas list this year though!"
