Have your say on mill revamp

RESIDENTS are being invited to have their say on the future of Woods Mill.

The site and surrounding area is earmarked for regeneration under the government's new planning system - the Local Development Framework.

Now members of the public are being urged to get involved and give their view on the three possible options.

The development aims to strike a balance between economic regeneration and conserving the industrial heritage of the town.

Planners are also keen to protect the interests of High Street shops and the recent Wren Nest Mill retail development.

The first option is a large supermarket with a mixture of office and residential units.

The second suggests a smaller scale shopping centre and offices with cafes, bars and restaurants at the front of Glossop Brook and residential units above.

The third is more relaxed and proposes a mixture of the first two options.

Plans are still in the very early stages as the site will be developed over the next 10-15 years.

And at a meeting of Glossop Town Partnership on Monday, members put forward the alternative ideas of a holiday complex to accommodate tourists, a museum or more leisure facilities for families to use.

The consultation paper can be viewed at www.highpeak.gov.uk along with an electronic version of the comments form.

Copies are also available at High Peak Borough Council Municipal Buildings or by calling 0845 1297777.

I couldn't agree more with Colin there is absolutely nothing to do in Glossop. Why more shops? This doesn't make any sense. I think it high time that the council invested in some form of attractions. Glossop wouldn't suffer financially by building some form of entertainment centre like a theme park or cinema complex, not only would jobs be created but also revenue gathered from surrounding areas.
