FANCY a change from the old banger?

Mettrick's Butchers are inviting customers to trade in their usual choice and try something new as part of National Sausage Week.

And the award-winning butchers have just the thing - the 'Bonfire Burner' and 'Black Magic Banger' with unusual ingredients such as ginger and treacle.

The special recipes have been concocted by owner John Mettrick and staff to celebrate Halloween and Bonfire Night.

He said: "We make about 30 different varieties of sausage, from the usual pork to ones like chicken and wild boar, but I think these are the most bizarre yet.

"It took a few tries to get them right, but I'm quite confident they will go down well. We have consulted food technologists to get it right so it's not just bucket chemistry!"

To mark National Sausage Week, customers at the High Street shop are also being asked to put their tastebuds to the test and try out four mystery bangers.

Those who manage to match them correctly to the four names given will win a 5lb bag of free bangers.

John added: "We did a similar test last year and it went down really well. Almost everyone who came in had a go, so our profits were probably down!"

The test takes place from 11am-2pm next Thursday and Friday (27 and 28 October) at the shop on High Street, Glossop.
