Wickers in a twist

AN ADVENTUROUS tot got her wickers in a twist after getting stuck in her toy box.

Nineteen-month-old Jasmine Lair was playing with new wicker baskets which had been bought to store her toys in.

But while mum Diane's back was turned, the toddler went from standing to sitting down in the basket and was unable to get out.

"All you could see was her head and her hands," said Diane, of Platt Street, Padfield.

"I can laugh about it now but at the time she was absolutely distraught and I was panicking because I didn't know what to do.

"I went out on the street and asked a woman who was passing for help, but Jasmine was stuck so tight we decided we'd have to phone the fire brigade."

Jasmine was wedged for around 45 minutes on Monday before being rescued by Glossop firefighters who had to use a hacksaw to cut her out.

Diane, 38, added: "Luckily I managed to calm her down by moving the basket in front of the television so she could watch Postman Pat.

"She absolutely loves it - you'd think she'd have been scared by the saw but she didn't even turn around, she was too busy watching the television."
