'We need you to help jazz festival'

CALLING all jazz fans!

Volunteers are needed in Glossop as it hosts one of the biggest events in the jazz world.

Organisers of Glossop Jazz Festival are appealing for volunteers to act as door stewards during the three-day event which celebrates the music of New Orleans.

The festival takes place from 23-25 September and has attracted many respected jazz artists to play at the two venues of St Mary's Parish Hall and the George Hotel.

And according to organiser Stan Coram, it's a perfect opportunity to get involved in the festival as well as getting close to the music.

He said: "We need about another six volunteers to man the doors and take tickets.

"Anyone interested can be assured that it's not a demanding job and as they are inside the venues, they will be able to see and hear all the bands."

"This is the only festival which is completely New Orleans jazz and it promises to be a great weekend."

Stan's personal highlight will be Annie Hawkins' New Orleans Earth Men who play at St Mary's from 8-11pm on Friday.

"The band members are all well-known musicians in their own right so it should be a fantastic show" he added.

Other artists include The Dave Donohoe New Orleans Jazz Band, The Riverside Jazzmen, The Wabash Jazz Band and The Tame Valley Stompers.

Refreshments will be available and festival-goers can also sample a selection of local ales provided by Howard Town Brewery.
