Motor-vated to be safe on the roads

YOU'RE never too young to learn the rules of the road.

Staying safe was the message behind a 'Motor-vated' exhibition launched at Gamesley Library last week.

The event, organised by Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Police, kicked off the first in a series of exhibitions which will travel around libraries and community centres in the county.

The exhibitions aim to teach youngsters about various safety issues including crime prevention, counterfeiting and drugs.

Families were invited along to listen and learn all about hazards such as speeding, drink driving, child safety seats and motorcyclists through a variety of activities and games.

The two-hour launch proved popular with artists, story tellers and historians helping to spread the message along with local police officers.

County Councillor Bob Janes said: "We hope that these innovative exhibitions will help spread key messages on a variety of important themes.

"By allowing people to see exhibits and take part in activities for themselves, we hope they will be more likely to retain the messages which aim to increase their safety."

The 'Motor-vated' exhibition remains at Gamesley Library until Saturday, 15 October.
