Cats cook up trouble

CATS cooked up some trouble on Tuesday after a faulty doorlock left them trapped in the kitchen.

But it wasn't feline friends Tigger and Sophie getting in a flap about it -it was their owner Susan Davidson.

Susan, of Newlands Drive in Hadfield, said: "We always put the cats in the kitchen before we go to bed but when I got up, I couldn't get the door open.

"I tried unscrewing the handle and fiddling with the pliers, but the lock had seized and there was no moving it.

"Tigger is diabetic and asthmatic and takes medication morning and night so we needed to get in and it was then my daughter suggested phoning the fire brigade."

Glossop firefighters were called at around 8am and tried various techniques before resorting to force to budge the door.

But despite being left needing a new lock, Susan said the experience taught her something else.

"Typically the cats weren't bothered at all - one was in bed and one went out the cat flap.

"But the firefighters did fit two new smoke alarms for free which I didn't know they did - so that's something new I've learned."
