Boots on for charity

A FORMER Glossop North End striker is lacing up his boots again for a match of a special kind.

Steve Morgan is hoping to raise money for the Meningitis Trust, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and Tameside Hospital, by organising a charity football match and family fun day.

His daughter Ellie was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis when she was just five months old and lost her hearing as a side effect of the illness.

Now almost two years on, the family is keen to raise money to help support the people who played a major part in Ellie's recovery and to also raise awareness.

Steve played for Glossop for almost 10 years and he is getting the Manchester Premier Cup Winners back together from 1997/98 to play the existing Glossop team.

He said: "It will be great for the lads to get together again even though fitness levels and waistlines are not as they were in 1997!

"We're hoping to raise as much as we possibly can to thank the people who saved Ellie's life."

The fun day takes place on Sunday, 4 September from 1pm at the ground on Surrey Street, Glossop.

The match will kick-off at 2pm.
