Student’s trip to the dry cleaners ends on catwalk

LAURA Sowerbutts is a model student.

She has spent the last year juggling university studies with modelling assignments.

Laura, 20, was talent-spotted while collecting dry cleaning and chosen to compete against hundreds of other wannabe models to be the Face of Manchester. She lost out on the top spot by just three votes.

The 20 year old, of Fauvel Road, Glossop, was approached by a modelling agency and asked to go on their books.

"I really didn't expect anything to come of it but I've done some catwalk modelling.

"One was for young designers and another was for a hair salon company," said Laura, great-granddaughter of gardening expert Bill Sowerbutts.

"And I've also had some extra work which is a lot of fun, I've been on Hollyoaks and No Angels," she said. "I was a passerby and another time I was sat in bar and had to just act natural."

She added: "I just don't get to do as much as I would like because of my university work, so it's mainly during the holidays."

Having just finished her second year at Leeds University, Laura is hoping to build up her portfolio and do more modelling after university.

"I would like to be able to do it full time and build up some more experience."
