CHARITY trek: Women from Glossop and Hadfield raised cash for breast cancer care
Best foot forward for charity funds
Tom Rowley18/ 5/2005
WIVES and friends of freemasons put their best feet forward to raise cash for a good cause.
More than 30 women walked five miles from Hadfield to the Bulls Head pub further up the Longdendale Trail, where they had worked up enough of an appetite to enjoy a well-earned potato pie supper.
So far the efforts of the women, whose ages range from 24 to 70, have raised over £2,800 and hope further donations will nudge the total over £3,000 for Tameside Hospital breast care unit.
Apart from a mini hailstorm at the beginning and end of the trek, the weather was sunny.
Peter Douthwaite, of Ashton and Mossley district freemasons, said: "A couple of the ladies have suffered breast cancer and undergone their treatment at Tameside. This sort of event is not unusual as wives, partners and friends play an active part in supporting freemasonry and its causes."
