A 25-YEAR-OLD man terrorised visitors to Manor Park by threatening them with an air rifle.
Police attended following reports of a man repeatedly pointing a gun at passers-by then firing it in the air.
He was arrested and a body search revealed he was also carrying a flick knife and a BB gun.
The incident took place at around 7.45pm on Saturday in the rose garden of the park on Manor Park Road, Glossop.
County Councillor Roger Wilkinson chairman of the Community Safety Partnership, expressed surprise over the incident at the weekend.
"We've had nothing major like this before in the park, it's mostly been kids who congregate there at night," he said.
"There has been a bit of vandalism but over the last few weeks it's all been quiet."
He was particularly concerned over the man's possession of a BB gun despite a recent crackdown on the imitation firearms. "Some people regard them as toys but they're not and can do some damage," he added.
A man from Rochdale has been charged with possessing a bladed article and an imitation firearm.
