STAMP it out: trading standards officers are launching a crackdown
Crackdown on teen booze sales
21/ 4/2005
COUNCIL chiefs are hoping to call time on under-age booze sales in Glossop.
Derbyshire County Council is launching a new campaign to help shopkeepers stay on the right side of the law and not sell cigarettes, alcohol and solvents to children.
Free 'Are You Old Enough' workshops will be held across the county where trading standards officers will hand out advice to retailers.
Everyone attending will also receive a campaign pack with a DVD, posters and badges to display in store plus a pocket-sized guide to the law.
Derbyshire's head of trading standards John Hammond said: "We're committed to clamping down on the illegal sale of age-restricted products to young people and offering shopkeepers and licensees the support to help us do it.
"The DVD will help traders understand their responsibilities and penalties if they break the law while stickers and posters will reinforce the message and help raise awareness among young customers."
Workshops are being funded by Derbyshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team. Anyone interested in booking a place should call 08456 058058.
