A GOVERNMENT minister dropped into Glossop on Monday to spread an important message.
International Development Secretary Hilary Benn spent the morning at Glossop Labour Club talking about his work to reduce poverty overseas.
The visit was organised by Labour Parliamentary election candidate Tom Levitt, who works as Mr Benn's parliamentary secretary in London, and strongly supports the cause.
Labour Party regional officer John Curry said: "One of the things we talked about most was the water provision in places like Africa and India.
"A staggering number of children die every day because of lack of clean water and everyone participated, wanting to know what help is available and what the government is doing to increase funding.
"Mr Levitt said the most number of letters in his postbag were to do with international development, which shows that people in the High Peak do have a social conscience and are very interested in what is happening."
