Video salesman cons pensioner

14/ 4/2005

AN 85-YEAR-OLD woman had her handbag and pension book stolen after a man posing as a salesman conned his way into her home.

The offender told the pensioner, who is also disabled, that he had a video link for sale but would need to check the wiring in her house first.

He spent 15 minutes alone upstairs and it was only after he had left that she noticed the pension book and handbag containing an amount of money were missing.

Police are appealing for information about the burglary which took place between 11.30am and 12pm on Monday on Old Road, Tintwistle.

He is described as of large build and of medium height with a 'nice, smiley face'. He was in his late 30s to early 40s and wore a woolly hat and a large, dark overcoat.

Police have now issued an e-fit picture of the burglar.

Anyone who saw the offender or has any other information which could help is asked to call police on 0845 1233333 or Crimestoppers free and confidentially on the hotline 0800 555111.
