GODS are gearing up for a theatrical revival

12/11/2008

TICKETS go on sale this weekend for the first Glossop Operatic and Dramatic Society show in nearly two years.

Stage One at Glossopdale Community College, Talbot Road, provides the venue for the popular Christmas pantomime, Red Riding Hood, with performances taking place from 2-6 December.

It will be the society’s first show since early 2007.

Production manager Andrew Veitch said: "After a tough year or so for the society, it’s good to be back in a great venue, presenting a show that’s full of fun for all the family. I hope the public will show their support for GODS, and come and see at least one of the performances.

"With lively song and dance and appearances from other fairy tale characters, GODS’ performance of Red Riding Hood guarantees an entertaining time, whether you’re five or 105."

The society is holding a get-together today (Thursday) for its next show, the rock’n’roll musical Return to the Forbidden Planet, due to be performed in April 2009. The production team will be upstairs at The Globe on High Street West to talk more about the show and auditions from 7.30pm.

Director Ken Redfern said: "In the show, we’re going to be travelling to another planet; enjoying a night of well-known ’60s music on the way; and having lots of bouncing, vivacious fun. If you’re interested in being a part of that, then come along and find out more about this action-packed musical."

Tickets for Red Riding Hood are available from Bay Tree Books on High Street West at £8 (£6 concessions) on 01457 862512. No concessions on Friday or Saturday evening, but all seats cost £5 on Tuesday evening. Group bookings of ten people or more can be arranged directly with the society.
