POLICE are trying to trace the relatives of an elderly couple who were found in a collapsed state at their home.

The couple, in their 80s were taken from their Tintwistle home by ambulance to Tameside Hospital.

Sadly the 84-year-old man was found to be dead on arrival, while an 80-year-old woman was still receiving treatment as the Advertiser went to press.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident which the Health and Safety Executive is investigating.

The police family liaison officer is now attempting to trace relatives of the couple.

Neighbours had become concerned about the couple’s welfare as their curtains had not been drawn.

A post-mortem is due to be held later this week.
