‘It reinforces the fact that this part of the country is a safe place to live and work’
Police hail 30 per cent drop in assaults

CRIME in Glossop has fallen five per cent in the last six months, according to police.
Latest statistics from the new Glossop and New Mills policing section of Derbyshire Constabulary show an overall reduction from 1 April, compared with the same period last year.
Sergeant John Bowman, of the local safer neighbourhood team, said a 30 per cent drop in assaults was particularly encouraging.
"It reinforces the fact that this part of the country is a safe place to live and work," he said. "However, there are still challenges within the area of theft and burglary that we are working hard to tackle. We would like to remind people who live and work in the area that there are simple things they can do to prevent this sort of crime. Please remember to ensure that your front and back doors are locked at night and, ideally, are locked when they are home. Opportunist criminals can slip in through an unlocked front or back door to steal handbags or wallets whilst the occupants are in other parts of their home or workplace. Also remember to not leave valuables on display in parked and unattended cars."
Officers are appealing to anyone who sees anything at all suspicious to ring the police on 0845 1233333.
"Anyone who would like advice on crime prevention or is interested in joining or starting a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in their area please should also contact the police on 0845 1233333," said Sgt Bowman.
