Shaun stepped up search when pet dog went walkies

INDIE star Shaun Ryder is no longer feeling ruff after being reunited with his TV star dog.

The Glossop-based Happy Mondays star was distraught after Oscar went walkies days after filming an appearance in hit Channel 4 show Shameless.

However after a 10-day search, the eight-year-old Lhasa Apso — a Tibetan breed — has come back.

It turns out Oscar, who will be seen on screen early next year, had been picked up close to the home in Glossop that Ryder shares with fiancée Joanne.

The woman who took him in later reported it to the local dog warden who had been involved, along with the police, in a search for Oscar.

Shaun said he was ‘over the moon’ to have the dog back, having feared the worst when he went missing.

Joanne said: "It was just awful without him. We’ve had him since he was a puppy and he’s one of the family.

"We think his head may have been turned by his TV appearance, but he found the streets weren’t paved with gold — they were paved with fleas, which we’ll have to sort."

Shaun and Oscar filmed their guest roles for episode three of next year’s series of the Wythenshawe-based Channel 4 drama.

The Step On star plays himself as part of a storyline where Mickey Maguire uses his pink limo to start up Madchester Tours.

Locations en route include Salford Lads Club, where Mickey (Ciaran Griffiths) and brother Shane (Nicky Evans) — dressed up as former Smiths singer Morrissey — fail to recognise Shaun.

He’s out taking his dog for a walk and waves to the Maguires, who are none the wiser about his identity.

A spokesman for the popular series said: "Shaun is a really huge fan of Shameless so we got him in for a cameo role.

"His scene in it is especially hilarious. We’re delighted he’s been reunited with Oscar."
