Eyesore pub site cleared

AN eyesore derelict pub site at one of the entrances to Glossopdale has been cleared up.
Work to convert the former Riverside Inn into a Chinese restaurant ground near the mini-roundabout on Woolley Bridge ground to a halt last year, leaving the site in an unfinished and untidy condition.
After contractors left the site, High Peak Council’s planning service stepped in and served an untidy site notice under section 215 of the Planning Acts.
The notice required the area to be cleared of all rubbish, the windows boarded up and the site fenced off.
Linda Baldry, executive councillor for planning, said: "We are determined to improve the quality of the environment in High Peak and therefore action needed to be taken. This is a prominent site on the main A57 at the gateway to Glossopdale and it was vital that it was cleaned up.To ensure that the area was improved, the council’s planning and legal teams worked hard in the face of complex ownership issues, which included overseas interests. The council will continue to take action against those who leave sites in such appalling conditions."
