Police chief hails 5% cut in the crime rate

POLICE say they are encouraged by a five per cent fall in crime across Glossop and the High Peak.
There have been reduction in burglaries, down three percent, vehicle crime down nine percent and assault with injury down 21 percent.
Calls to cope with anti-social behaviour also fell 21 percent, which police ascribe to the success of their safer neighbourhood teams and community safety partnerships.
The decrease in crime is over the last three months compared with last year.
Chief Supt Roger Flint, commander of B Division — which includes Glossopdale — said: "These figures are great news for the residents of High Peak and Derbyshire Dales and a reward for the hard work of my staff and our partners. I am also very grateful to the public in this area for their support and assistance. Reducing figures year-on-year is a challenge, particularly when incidents of crime are already low. We must all continue our hard work targeting criminals and doing everything possible to protect and reassure our community."
Police also say that public satisfaction figures in 2007/08 also rose. According to them, 98 per cent were satisfied with the ease with which they can contact the force; 81 per cent content with action taken by officers and 84 per cent satisfied about their experience with bobbies.
"The figures reflect the hard work, professionalism and dedication of all our staff to provide a high quality service to the public," Chief Supt Flint added.
