Gala performance at village carnival

A FUN time was had by all at the Tintwistle Carnival at the weekend.
A parade with half a dozen decorated floats wended its way through the village from the recreation fields along Conduit Street, West Drive and Manchester Road, up Old Road and New Road and back. Children dressed in a variety of costumes to take part in the Gala while Tintwistle Band provided the musical entertainment during Saturday’s event.
Visitors enjoyed the stalls, which included the Women’s Institute tea and scone stall, while Spanish Flamenco dancers from Hadfield provided a dash of colour along with plenty of twirls. A giant children’s slide and raffles and separate races involving mums, dads and children made for plenty of fun.
Councillor Pat Jenner said: "It seemed like the whole village was there — about 300 people attended. The weather was okay – it was overcast but stayed fine. A good time was had by all."
Joel Smith, 16, won the Paul Blood Memorial trophy penalty shootout, played for every year in honour of a local teenager who died a couple of years after receiving a heart transplant.
